Private Company Services Webcast Series

A Perfect Storm: Trends in Controversy Affecting Private Companies and High Net Worth Individuals

Introduction

PwC’s Private Company Services (PCS) group is launching a webcast series that focuses on critical issues affecting private companies and high net worth individuals. We invite you to attend, “A Perfect Storm: Trends in Controversy Affecting Private Companies and High Net Worth Individuals,” on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 2:00 – 3:30 pm ET.

Background:

The marketplace and regulatory landscape have changed and private companies and high net-worth individuals need to understand how this “perfect storm” of events affects their businesses and their investments.
  • The marketplace is now global and companies are increasingly expanding outside of their home country in order to survive and remain competitive.
  • This expansion is coupled with a proliferation of new rules and reinterpretation of existing rules for transfer pricing by the taxing authorities of cash-strapped countries seeking to add additional revenues, in part by tightening transfer pricing regulations.
  • New requirements are now in place that private companies must follow for disclosing uncertain tax positions. This is creating an impact on examinations.
  • The IRS is taking a significantly more aggressive approach toward high net worth individuals by conducting comprehensive audits of their holdings which is affecting the corresponding management of the exam.
Please join our panel of experts for an informative discussion of these issues:
  • David VanEgmond – A Tax Partner and Detroit Private Company Services Market Leader, Dave specializes in advising wealthy families, closely-held business owners and significant shareholders in private corporations.
  • Karen Pickerill - Managing Director, Global Transfer Pricing Group, New York, Karen has significant experience performing intercompany pricing analyses and devising solutions to complex international and domestic transfer pricing problems faced by both large and emerging multinational corporations.
  • Barry Shott – Managing Director, member of PwC’s National Tax Services and co-leader of its Advance Pricing & Mutual Agreement and Transfer Pricing Controversies Practice, Barry focuses his work on resolving matters before the U.S. Competent Authority and negotiating Advance Pricing Agreements on behalf of U.S. taxpayers. He joined PwC after a lengthy career with the U.S. IRS where he served in a variety of executive positions.
  • Linda Stiff – Managing Director and member of PwC’s National Tax Services, Linda focuses her work on addressing and resolving client IRS tax issues, examination matters and controversies. She joined PwC after a 30 year career with the IRS where she served as IRS Acting Director and Deputy Commissioner for Operations Support, among many roles.

Who should attend? Financial executives and tax directors of private companies with non-U.S. operations or private companies considering expanding outside of the U.S.; high net worth individuals and advisors to high net worth individuals.
